Las Vegas black history dates back to the early 20th century.
African Americans have been a part of the city since the town's founding, however there were only a small number.
Between the years of 1940 and 1960, Las Vegas saw huge jump in the number of black people moving into the city in search of employment and new opportunities.

One of the most notable stories of Las Vegas black history is the story of the world famous, Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino. It was founded to serve African Americans living in Las Vegas.
It was the 1st desegregated casino in America. It also was frequented by some of the most famous black and white entertainers of the time. Learn More
